Reyee Toolkit Features

Ruijie recently released a new update for the Ruijie Cloud App for mobile devices and there are several exciting changes. The user interface (UI) has been overhauled to be more intuitive, as well as introduce brand new Toolkit features to assist with fine-tuning your network.

In this blog, we will be taking a look at how these tools benefit installers as well as some nifty Augmented Reality (AR) functionality.

Pre-Installation

AR Heat Map

The AR Heat Map allows the user to upload a simple floor plan and plot the wireless coverage within the building. The user can select the Reyee access point (AP) that they would be installing and place them on the map to see the coverage zones.

The Heat Map will automatically recognise walls on the floor plan and account for them when calculating the wireless coverage. A small graph will indicate how much of the map is covered and how much of it is good, moderate, or bad.

Below the map is a list of all the APs that have been plotted, and a button to save the floor plan with coverage as an image. This is excellent for sharing with other technicians or with the end users post-installation.

PoE Calculation

In the PoE calculation tool, the user specifies which wireless equipment is being used on the network and the tool will calculate the total PoE budget required for the network and then give suggestions as to which Reyee switch can cater to the required PoE budget.

This will help users select the right equipment for the network that they have plotted in the AR Heat Map.

Post-Installation

AR Roaming Test

In multi-AP deployments, it is essential to thoroughly test the client’s roaming capabilities to ensure optimal performance. The AR Roaming tool allows users to not only test the roaming of the network by walking around and getting a live signal reading of their connection strength to the APs, but also latency, packet loss, and current data rate.

The most interesting part is that it plots where you walk in real-time on a map. When looking around with the device in hand, it maps the historical context on what the signal was like and the exact points where the device roamed to the next AP.

It also displays information at the point of changeover, providing the old signal strength and the new one when roaming occurred.

Markers can be placed on the map to save notes while walking around. Once the test is complete, a report can be generated with the map, the distance covered, the average connection details throughout the test, as well as graphs for both the signal strengths and latency throughout the roaming experience.

This report can easily be shared with others to give them insight into the wireless network layout and performance.

Speed Test

The Speed test performs a download and upload test through the current internet connection and then provides a report. The report shows both the download and upload speeds, as well as a video streaming estimate stating what quality the user is capable of viewing through the connection. It also states whether the user will have issues with online gaming by analysing the latency of the connection.

There is also an option to view all the network details of the connected client device should the user feel that the device is not connected correctly. Benchmarking via the app is useful and is generally more accurate than performing the test from the AP since it won’t saturate its resources by generating traffic.

AR Head-Up Display (HUD)

Reyee’s AR HUD uses the mobile device's camera to scan the QR code on compatible products to give you a real-time visual representation of what is connected to the scanned device.

This will help users identify the connected devices, which port it is plugged into, diagnose connection issues to LAN devices, and locate any possible network loops on the switch. It is also an alternative to labelling everything on the switch or router.

Currently, this tool is only compatible with select managed switches and gateways. Compatible Scoop-sold devices are: RG-NBS24G4S, RG-NBS24P4S, RG-EG105G, RG-EG105GP.

The new Ruijie Cloud App offers these features plus more at absolutely no cost to the user. When using Reyee products there is no question that it is a high value solution which keeps up with modern network requirements for network professionals.
